This game-changing method will improve your ART

There are 3 key stages to really seeing a difference in your artwork.

Here’s the thing: most beginner artists stop at the first!! Each stage is entirely separate from the other. All are required if you truly want to see really progress in your artwork.

The 3 stages are: knowing something, understanding something, and actually using it by putting it into practice.

Just like you can know healthy food is good for you. You can then learn why it’s good for you, and understand how it benefits the body. But that doesn’t automatically mean you eat healthy. You have to make that choice to put it into practice.

How does this relate to art and painting?

KNOWING

The first stage is the ‘knowing of something’.

When you first start painting, there are tons of things you might not even be aware of. And becoming aware of them is the first step of improving.

Like knowing that: a colour wheel can be helpful in painting, or the ‘fat over lean’ oil painting rule, or that there are composition rules.

UNDERSTANDING

The second stage is really understanding these parts of painting.

Understanding how they work, why, and how. This is the part that a lot of beginner artists avoid because it’s pretty hard work. And it can feel overwhelming. But when you make space in your creativity to really learn and understand how things work, it makes the third stage simple.

PRACTICE

The third stage is actually USING what you have learnt and putting it into practice.

This is totally the sweet stage and worth all that work when you start making artwork and think, ‘I really made that?!

Examples:

This is where you know, understand and actually USE the colour wheel in your artwork.

Or when you know, understand and actually USE those composition rules.

Or even when you know, understand and USE those drawing techniques to get a beautiful foundation for your painting.

It’s when you can go through all of these stages in your creative process that you will see real and fast growth in your art skills and paintings.

Now, imagine breezing through these stages with a guide by your side.

That's where I come in. ✨

These are the stages I take my students through in Learn To Paint With Confidence, where we systematically go through the 5 core skills you need to have as an artist.

I break down the 'whys' and show you exactly how to implement it in your artwork.
