'Momentary' has been in the making for over a year, inspired by two unforgettable trips to Glencoe, Scotland. I took nearly a hundred reference photos—one of which nearly saw me tumbling into a brook! I was down on the ground, capturing the grasses from this intimate perspective, to ensure they welcome you right into the painting.

This piece was built up with layer upon layer of rich oil paint. I used broad, sweeping brushstrokes alongside delicate details applied with a palette knife, creating an inviting texture you can almost feel. The decision to use oil paint was intentional; I wanted to fully express the depth and subtlety of the colors in this serene scene. The painting evokes a sense of safety, with the mountains enveloping you like a warm embrace. The small cottage nestled nearby offers a sense of comfort and shelter, while the winding stream invites you to explore, representing growth and the allure of new adventures.

Including the cottage was essential to me—it serves as an anchor in the vastness of the landscape, highlighting the towering majesty of the surrounding mountains. That feeling of being cradled by nature, of being both grounded and uplifted, is something I find deeply nurturing, and it’s what I aimed to capture here.
