Still Life With Sweet Peas Study

Still Life With Sweet Peas Study
Painted from life in my studio, this piece captures a bunch of sweet peas freshly picked from the garden and placed in a cut crystal glass. I wanted to explore how wild and expressive these delicate flowers can feel — soft and playful, yes, but also a little untamed. I bought the seeds from the RHS garden fair, and they’ve become my favourite to grow — not just for their beautiful scent and colours, but the way they seem to do their own thing once they bloom. In this painting, I leaned into abstracted petal shapes to suggest the energy and gesture of the flowers without over-defining them. It’s a piece full of softness and character — the way a garden feels when it’s just slightly overgrown and alive.
