How Art Can Change Your Life

I've never been a big art collector, mainly because of lack of funding ;) But when I have a favourite artist, after a couple of years I usually decide to invest in a painting or print. I don't know whether you personally are a collector of art, but you must have an interest...to be reading this! My question to you is...what is your favourite piece of art you ever invested in?...and why? Do you think art can change your life? My favourite art piece that I've purchased is Charmaine Olivia's "Ocean" and it was a limited edition print, studio piece. I have it hanging above my office desk where I do all my admin work e.g. writing blog posts ;) Every time I look up, she is there and she makes me feel like a stronger woman.

“Don't worry about a thing, every little thing is gonna be alright”

I love how art in the home can have this huge effect on our emotions. That's why I'm so passionate about people investing in it, rather than buying wholesale art from the local store. There are so many amazing independent artists who are struggling to make their artist dreams come true, and their work is truly amazing. The best place to search for independent artists who sell their work is Etsy, Instagram, Pinterest are just to name a few. It's such a beautiful process buying directly from the artist too. It's much more of a special connection than buying from a gallery. I usually include a little handwritten thank you note with each order which keeps it lovely and personal.

I think this process of finding and connecting with the artist, and displaying your favourite works, is what makes the difference between a house and a home. Being surrounded by things you find beautiful can ultimately improve your happiness and contentment. I know this to be true from first-hand experience. When I have an emotional connection to a painting, I find myself staring at it without realising. Afterwards I feel uplifted and inspired, almost like my button has hit reset. The fact that my artwork can do that to others is truly humbling and an amazing honour. This is one of the main reasons I choose to sell my work. So that it can be enjoyed and even help with emotional & mental wellbeing. This is the most powerful way that art can change your life.

So next time you see a piece of art that you connect with, don't walk away.
