I’ve been enjoying experimenting with brush strokes of a slightly abstract nature. For this painting I used a flat edge wide brush, as you can see from the angular paint marks. I love combining soft florals, with hard edges and enjoying that juxtaposition. It gives the roses an unapologetic presence, despite their pretty colour and shape.

I also love balancing the contrasts of colour, so if you look closely you will see pops of blue, orange and purple.
